Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Amoakohene Commissions Committee to Revive Kumawood

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has inaugurated a Ministerial Committee on the Movie Industry & Creatives (Kumawood) to drive growth and transformation in Ghana’s film and creative arts sector. The committee, commissioned on March 4, 2025, is tasked with revitalizing Kumawood and making it globally competitive.

The committee will assess the current state of the industry, identify key challenges, and develop policies to attract investment and ensure sustainable growth. It will also promote Ghanaian films locally and internationally, improve film production facilities and training opportunities, enhance film festivals and cultural showcases, and foster collaboration among industry stakeholders.

The committee is chaired by Bishop David Ofori-Adu, with Emmanuel Opoku Anane serving as secretary. Other members include; James Aboagye from the Film Producers Association of Ghana, Khalifa Adams Khalifa from the Film Directors Guild of Ghana, Alejandro Peterson David’s White Cross from the Film Crew Association of Ghana, and Mohammed Iddrisu Abdellah representing the Zongo Filmmakers Association. Bill Asamoah represents the Ghana Actors Guild, Frank Adu Paprah represents YouTube Producers, and Zakaria Abdulai represents the Audiovisual Rights Society of Ghana. Also on the committee are writer and filmmaker Asare Bediako, art director Frank Fiifi Gharbin, executive producer Samuel Nyamekye, creative actor Sylvester Agyapong, and actors Mercy Asiedu, Rebecca Mauro, and Michael Afranie.

Dr. Amoakohene urged the committee members to execute their mandate with dedication and unity to elevate Kumawood and the entire creative industry, ensuring Ghanaian stories reach a global audience.
