Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Amoakohene Proposes AshantiFest to Celebrate and Develop the Region

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has proposed AshantiFest, a week-long festival to celebrate the region’s culture and drive development.

In a recent announcement on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on March 10, 2025, he revealed that the festival will feature diverse activities aimed at engaging communities and fostering progress.

The proposed lineup includes a cleanup exercise to improve sanitation, a boxing night featuring top Ghanaian fighters, and an inter-district soccer gala. A development dialogue and an open forum with the Minister will provide platforms for discussions on the region’s future. Health initiatives like free screenings and blood donation drives will also be part of the event.

Cultural showcases will be central, with the Anweneɛ Festival highlighting Kente weaving, wood carving, and Adinkra symbols. A food bazaar will celebrate local cuisine, while a homecoming event at Manhyia Palace will unite the Ashanti people. Entertainment highlights include an excursion to Lake Bosomtwe and stage plays such as Kejetia Vs Makola and a Kumawood All Stars performance.
