Samira Bawumia has revealed plans for the establishment of Regional Creative Hubs under a potential Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia-led government to foster innovation and collaboration in Ghana’s creative arts sector.
Speaking at a stakeholders meeting held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the Longford Event Center in Odeneho-Kwadaso, Kumasi, she described the hubs as centers for training, networking, and production. These hubs aim to provide the infrastructure and resources needed to empower creatives and stimulate regional economic growth.
The initiative is part of Dr. Bawumia’s broader vision to transform the creative arts sector into a thriving contributor to national development. The hubs, according to Hajia Samira, will address long-standing challenges such as the lack of infrastructure and opportunities for collaboration, while also creating jobs and fostering regional development.
She assured stakeholders that this commitment reflects her husband’s dedication to practical and sustainable solutions for the arts industry.
The meeting also reignited discussions about the NPP’s unfulfilled 2016 promise to build nine ultra-modern theaters in regions without such facilities. While the delay remains a concern for many creatives, Hajia Samira assured attendees that the proposed creative hubs would offer a more inclusive and actionable alternative. She emphasized that these hubs would cater to a wide range of talents, from musicians and filmmakers to visual artists and designers, by equipping them with the tools they need to succeed.
