QATAR 2022 World Cup: Ghana Is First African Country To Book Ticket

Ghana became the first African country to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday by toppling rivals Nigeria on the away-goals rule.

The Black Stars drew 1-1 with the Super Eagles in Abuja and advanced 2-1 on aggregate after the first leg ended 0-0.

Arsenal star Thomas Partey snatched the opener with a strike from outside the box in ten minutes.

But Nigeria equalized after 22 minutes from the spot courtesy of William Troost-Ekong.

They were joined by Senegal, the reigning African champions, who beat Egypt on penalties after a 1-0 win tied to score 1-1.

Tunisia qualified without even having to score against Mali in the playoffs.

An own goal from defender Moussa Sissako in the first leg in Bamako (1-0) was all that they needed to reach their sixth World Cup after settling for a scoreless draw at home on Tuesday.

Cameroon sealed their place in the World Cup in dramatic fashion, scoring four minutes into the extra time’s stoppage time to condemn Algeria to a heartbreaking 2-1 loss in Blida and advance on the away goal rule following a 2-2 aggregate draw.

In Rabat, Morocco hammered DR Congo 4-1 to seal an easy passage to the World Cup after their 1-1 away draw on Friday.

Azzedine Ounahi opened the scoring in the 21st minute before a brace from Tarik Tissoudali on either side of the interval put Morocco in command.

Achraf Hakimi completed the route in 69 minutes, with Ben Malango scoring a consolation for DR Congo eight minutes later.

The Atlas Lions will now play at their sixth World Cup.
