Stop Killing Our Hit Songs With Dance Videos And Concentrate On Radio & TV Organic Promos – Wei Ye Oteng

Written by on 06/07/2022

The lifespan of music popularity and hits in the Ghanaian music space in recent years is on a declining radio to music produced yesteryears.

Renowned Ghanaian music producer, We Ye Oteng, has shared his worry about the current trend of Ghanaian music longevity.

The producer attributes it to dance videos musicians have adopted to push songs to trends by making all moves and dance for them to be instant hits, instead of allowing them to hit “organically“, siting Kelvyn Boy’s “Down Flat” and Black Sheriff’s “Kwaku The Traveler” as a case study.

Wei Ye Oteng in a Facebook post stated,

Pushing songs to trends by making all these moves X dance for it to be a hit is killing our songs faster than allowing it organically grow to gradually to become hit”

The worried producer added,

Cox the moment another person’s moves overtake yours, no matter how great your song is, trust me your off the table. And it’s really worrying.”

The producer whose expectations in the two songs mentioned above believe musicians are killing their songs with the dance videos made by influencers on the social networking video platform, TikTok, which is a great technology but can’t beat the radio and television organic promotion. Because the moment a new wave comes, the trending ones are discarded.

I was expecting much higher grounds for songs like DOWN FLAT, KTT etc by now to be uncontrollable but derr norrr some BUGA moves tell am sey make e’shift, guys u can’t beat the organic radio and TV promo with tiktok oooh, it’s really great technology is here to stay, but trust me we still need to reach the grounds and stop acting all made it when dancegod and some few others teach some girls move to start trending on our artist behalf, (Boobs X Bombom generation)
It’ s doing more harm than good, cox every now and then musicians are tempted to come with something new when their jams are out of trends, lets wake up be4 creativity becomes a competition. God’s Day.
