The evolution of the Ghanaian music industry is like a pendulum as cities and for that matter regions over the years battle for supremacy.
The Greater Accra Region, over a decade until recent times was the hub of Ghana’s music space as it has produced great and talented artists like; Shatta Wale, R2Bees, Medikal, King Promise, Bisa Kdei, Efya, Sarkodie, Guru, Kuami Eugene, Keche amongst others.
The Movement has giving birth to new entrants and existing acts like; Yaw Tog, Kofi Jamar, Amerado, Asakaa Boys, Kweku Flick, Kwaku Darlington, Qatmann, Wuu Gang, YPee, and others.
The movement that was born out of social media troll from a picture shared on the online space has giving birth to a new generation of artists, producers, from the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, and taking over the country’s music space.
In an interview with Nana Yaw Agyemang (Big Shaq Attacker), on Abusua 96.5FM’s on “Oseikrom Anigyie“, the leader of the group “Kumericans” narrated how the movement started;
It started way back but it went viral after I posted a picture we took four years back on social media with the the caption “Kumericans……. TAFO💯”
“The trolls started and all of a sudden the fashion style gave birth to a new music revolution, drill music, bringing the industry back to Kumasi.” He added.
According to Kwaku Aboagye, the leader of the group, the just ended 3Music Awards organizers nominated Kumericans in the Fan Army of the Year category which they emerged winners but are yet to receive the plaque.
“No one can challenge the fact that, we are the originators of the movement, so they should bring us the the 3Music Awards plaque”.
“I’ve placed calls on Sadiq, the CEO of the award scheme severally, but I’m yet to receive a positive response”.
Kumericans; Rain Best, Kwaku Aboagye, Kwaku Kristo, Toffking, Baby 9, Benson, Oboshi, Franklin, Eminem, Bounce, are currently on a media tour, promoting their debut single “Grrrrr” that features Lucky Born Star; the sound of the money counting machine
