A very well-known Ghanaian broadcast journalist is currently under investigation over reports that he kept to himself a bigger portion of charity funds raised to support former Black Stars Coach Sir Cecil Jones Attuquayefio, who is currently suffering from ill health.
The journalist, acting head of sports of an English-speaking private radio station in Accra and has the initials e. k., is the main suspect and is currently on suspension from work.
Some of the donations had come from society big names including Black Stars player Asamoah Gyan who donated an amount of $3,000, Businessman Kennedy Agyepong aka Cappuccino who reportedly doled out an amount of GH¢3,000 and Executive Committee Member of the Ghana Football Association Randy Abbey who donated an amount of $1,000 .
Meanwhile, reports said the June 29 charity football match for Sir Attuquayefio was well-patronized and a lot of money was generated from the gate proceeds but the good old coach was apparently used as a fund-raising effigy to line the pockets of others.
Aside working for the super hits radio station that prides itself in having a discerning audience, the journalist is also a regular face on a sports programme on a private TV station in Accra.
The presenter has been given a two-week suspension from work and ordered to cough out the cash he pocketed from donations which he failed to declare to management of the station.
Sources said the suspension is to pave way for further investigations by management of the station.
In his absence, one of the sports presenter’s deputies has been asked to act in his stead. MORE SOON
